Larry Sandler awardee Stephanie Turner Chen with her graduate advisor Anandasankar Ray and Richard Mann from selection committee
At the 53rd Annual Drosophila Research Conference, Dr. StephanieTurner Chen received the Larry Sandler Memorial Award and presented the Larry Sandler Memorial Lecture to the meeting. The award honors the memory of Dr. Sandler who made many contributions to Drosophila genetics and also trained many Drosophila geneticists. This highly prestigious award is given to the most outstanding PhD dissertation in Drosophila genetics during the previous year and commenced in 1988. Dr. Turner was a CMDB student in the laboratory of Dr. Anand Ray of the Entomology Department and her work on Drosophila olfaction was published in two papers in Nature of which she was first author.
